Thousands of people living in the Chinese capital will celebrate the start of the Chinese New year by heading for the ski resorts (滑雪場). Never mind that Beijing's dry weather seldom produces snow. It is cold enough in winter for snow-making machines to make a covering for the hills north to the capital. And the rapid growth of a pleasure-seeking middle class has formed the basis for this new craze(熱潮).Since Beijing's first ski resort was opened ten years ago, the sport has enjoyed astonishing increase. There are now more than a dozen resorts. Clothes markets in the city have added bright colored ski suits to their winter collections. Mr. Wei, a manager of a newly-opened ski resort in Beijing, sees the growth of an industry that could soon lead Chinese to head for the ski resorts of Europe. In recent years ski resorts offering natural snow have opened in China. But many are in faraway areas of the country and can't really match the equipment and services of some ski resorts in Europe.Beijing's skiing craze is partly a result of the recent increase in private (私有的) cars. This has led to the growth of a leisure industry in the capital's suburbs (郊區(qū)), which until the late-1990s were unreachable to ordinary people. According to Mr. Wei, about 40% of the visitors to his resort come in their own cars. The rest are bused in by schools, businesses or government offices. The problem is making money. Starting ski resorts requires quite a lot of money: hiring land from the local government, preparing the hills, buying snow machines, making sure there are enough water and electricity to run them, and buying ski equipment for hiring out to customers.    The ski resort where Mr. Wei works cost nearly $4m to set up. And, as so often in China when someone comes up with a good idea, many others rush in and price wars break out. Beijing now offers some of the cheapest ski training classes in the world, though with most people rather new to the sport, expecting a few more doing the same job.50. What does this text mainly talk about?    A. Convenience for skiers brought about by private cars.    B. Skiing as a new way of enjoying one's spare time.    C. Things to be considered when starting a ski resort.D. A sudden increase of ski training classes in Beijing.51. Why are some Chinese likely to go skiing in Europe?A. To visit more ski areas.               B. To ski on natural snow.C. For a large collection of ski suits.      D. For better services and equipment.52. The underlined words "leisure industry" in Paragraph 3 refer to_.      A. transport to ski resorts              B. production of family cars     C. business of providing spare time enjoyments     D part-time work for people living in the suburbs 53. What is the main problem in running a ski resort?      A. Difficulty in hiring land.             B. Lack of business experience.      C. Price wars with other ski resorts,      D. Shortage of water and electricity,【文章大意】本文主要就北京郊區(qū)建起滑雪場的事情,很多中產(chǎn)階層的人們開始追求這種熱潮。50. Mr. Wei, a manager of a newly-opened ski resort in Beijing, sees the growth of an industry that could soon lead Chinese to head for the ski resorts of Europe以及此段的最后一句But many are in faraway areas of the country and can't really match(敵得過)the equipment and services of some ski resorts in Europe.可知。52. 仔細理解“And the rapid growth of a pleasure-seeking middle class has formed the basis for this new craze(熱潮)”. 以及“Beijing's skiing craze is partly a result of the recent increase in private (私有的) cars. This (指上一句的內(nèi)容) has led to the growth of a leisure industry in the capital's suburbs (郊區(qū)), which until the late-1990s were unreachable to ordinary people.” The ski resort where Mr. Wei works cost nearly $4m to set up. And, as so often in China when someone comes up with a good idea, many others rush in and price wars break out. Beijing now offers some of the cheapest ski training classes in the world可知,由于很多人都蜂擁去建滑雪場,打起價格戰(zhàn),致使資金投入很多,但收益不是很大。 AHe has lived through various dangers but time may be running out for the Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat. On September 11, Israel announced its decision to remove him, following several Palestinian suicide bomb attacks on Israel. “He should be punished for the killings,” an Israeli official said, “He has done nothing to stop the terrorist groups.”But the decision has angered many other countries. China said that Arafat is the true leader, elected by the Palestinian people, and removing him would harm the peace in the Middle East. Other governments share this idea.Arafat himself said: “They can kill me, but never get me out of my country.” He has spent most of his life in danger as the most important aim of Israel. But, just like a cat with nine lives, Arafat escaped every time. For years he has made a practice of sleeping in a different bed each night, thinking a moving person is harder to hit. In 1985, Israel sent fighter planes to kill Arafat. The wild bombing destroyed his office in Tunis but Arafat himself was unhurt. In 1992, the aircraft in which he was flying over North Africa broke in two during a crash landing. The pilot was killed but he managed to remain alive. What is so unbelievable is that he always remains calm in great danger. Israeli tanks and planes attacked his office building in Ram Allah in December 2001. When they saw the attackers coming, Arafats bodyguards took no notice of his orders to stay still and carried him to safety underground. Seconds later, several bombs were dropped nearby. Though safe, his bodyguards were so frightened that they were wet in sweat. But, Arafat, with Israeli tanks only 200 meters away, showed no fear at all. He stayed in the damaged office, talking by phone with foreign leaders in hope of preventing further attacks from Israel. All these experiences have made him a beloved leader to his people and an enemy to some others. But has he used up the last of his nine lives? Only time will tell.56. According to the passage, which statement is true?A. In 1992, Arafats plane crashed in South Africa.B. Israeli officers thought Arafat himself sent the terrorist groups to Israel.C. China is the only country against Israels decision of removing Arafat.D. Being Palestinian leader, Arafat would rather die in his own country than be driven awayfrom his people.57. What did the author mean by saying “just like a cat has nine lives” when he talked about Arafat?A. Arafat is as clever as a cat.B. Arafat can live as long as a cat.C. Arafat can stay alive after accidents or disasters as if he has nine lives.D. Arafat should have died for at least 8 times.58. The underlined phrase “took no notice of” can be replaced by _.A. obeyed B. ignoredC. disagreed D. dissatisfied59. Whats the writers attitude towards Arafats future, judging from the last sentence of the passage?A. Hopeful.B. Interesting.C. Satisfactory.D. Doubtful.*結束BIn the United States, friendships can be close, constant, intense, generous, and real, yet fade away in a short time if things change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greeting for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a whilethen no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship where it's left off and are delighted. In the States, you can feel free to visit people's homes and share their holidays without fear that you are taking on a lasting obligation. Do not hesitate to accept hospitality because you cannot give it in return. No one will expect you to do so for they know you are far from home. Americans will enjoy welcoming you and be pleased if you accept their hospitality easily.Once you arrive there, the welcome will be full and warm and real. Most visitors find themselves easily invited into many homes there. In some countries it is considered inhospitable to entertain at home, offering what is felt as "merely" home cooked food, not "doing something" for your guest. It is felt that restaurant entertaining shows more respect and welcome. Or for various other reasons, such as crowded space, language difficulties, or family custom, outsiders are not invited into homes. In the United States, both methods are used, but it is often considered more friendly to invite a person to one's home than to go to a public place, except in pure business relationships. So, if your host or hostess brings you home, do not feel that you are being shown inferior treatment.60. In the United States, friendships might _ if things become different.A. disappear little by little B. last forever  C. be heartbreakingD. end suddenly 61. All the following factors but _ prevent people from inviting their friends home for dinner according to the passage.A. different languagesB. naughty children  C. different customsD. small houses62. We can infer that _ in America according to this passage.A. friendships are difficult to get but easy to lose  B. it is hard for a person to pick up the friendship when he comes across his long lost friend C. you might be considered as a person hungry for social activities if you accept an invitation too easily  D. people care little about where they are invited to go for dinner63. Why is giving a dinner party at home considered less hospitable in some countries? A. Because eating at the restaurant is a sign of respect. B. Because having dinner at home seems less friendly.  C. Because dishes prepared at home are less delicious.  D. Because a dinner at the restaurant is more expensive.  *結束ASometimes people cheat in daily life. When people cheat, its not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game. Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesnt solve the problem of not knowing the material and it wont help on the next test - unless the person cheats again. Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too. Some kids cheat because theyre busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they cant pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isnt a good idea.If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldnt study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you dont have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance(平衡) swimming and school. A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions(解決辦法) together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.56The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, _. Ateachers should punish themBit does harm to their heath Cit is unfair to other peopleDteachers shouldnt stop them at once57Some students like cheating mainly because_. Athe material in the test is very difficult Bthey want to do better than the others Ccheating can make hard things seem very easy Dthey have little time to study their lessons58The fourth paragraph mainly tells us_.Acheating isnt a good idea Bsome kids dont spend the time studying Csome kids cant pass the test without cheating Dwhy kids cheat in the test59We can learn from the passage_. Acheaters are often thought highly of Bpeople show no respect for those who cheatCparents whose kids cheat are often in troubleDkids cheat in the test because of swim practice56-59 CCDB *結束
