江蘇省常熟市2014高考英語一輪 閱讀理解暑假訓(xùn)練題(11)

常熟市2014高考英閱讀理解語一輪(暑假)訓(xùn)練題(11)及答案No woman can be too rich or too thin. This saying often attributed to the late Duchess of Windsor embodies much of the odd spirit of our times. Being thin is deemed as such a virtue. The problem with such a view is that some people actually attempt to live by it. I myself have fantasies of slipping into narrow designer clothes. Consequently, I have been on a diet for the betteror worsepart of my life. Being rich wouldnt be bad either, but that wont happen unless an unknown relative dies suddenly in some distant land, leaving me millions of dollars. Where did we go off the track? When did eating butter become a sin, and a little bit of extra flesh unappealing, if not repellent? All religions have certain days when people refrain from eating and excessive eating is one of Christianitys seven deadly sins. However, until quite recently, most people had a problem getting enough to eat. In some religious groups, wealth was a symbol of probable salvation and high morals, and fatness a sign of wealth and wellbeing. Today the opposite is true. We have shifted to thinness as our new mark of virtue. The result is that being fat or even only somewhat overweightis bad because it implies a lack of moral strength. Our obsession(迷戀) with thinness is also fueled by health concerns. It is true that in this country we have more overweight people than ever before, and that, in many cases, being overweight correlates with an increased risk of heart and blood vessel disease. These diseases. , however, may as much to do with our way of life and our highfat diets as with excess weight. And the associated risk of cancer in the digestive system may be more of a dietary problemtoo much fat and a lack of fiberthan a weight problem. The real concern, then, is not what we weight too much, but that we neither exercise enough nor eat well. Exercise is necessary for strong bones and both heart and lung health. A balanced diet without a lot of fat can also help the body avoid many diseases. We should surely stop paying so much attention to weight. Simply being thin is not enough. It is actually hazardous if those who (or already are) thin think they are automatically healthy and thus free from paying attention to their overall lifestyle. Thinness can be pure vainglory(虛榮).6. In the eyes of the author, an odd phenomenon nowadays is that _.A. the Duchess of Windsor is regarded as a woman of virtueB. looking slim is a symbol of having a large fortuneC being thin is viewed as a much desired qualityD religious people are not necessarily virtuous7. Swept by the prevailing trend, the author _.A. had to go on a diet for the greater part of her lifeB. could still prevent herself from going off the trackC. had to seek help from rich distant relativesD. had to wear highly fashionable clothes8. In human history, peoples views on body weight _A. were closely related to their religious beliefs B. changed from time to timeC. varied between the poor and the rich D. led to different moral standard9. The author criticizes womens obsession with thinness _-.A from an economic and educational perspective B. from sociological and medical points of viewC from a historical and religious standpointD. in the light of moral principles10. Whats the authors advice to women who are absorbed in the idea of thinness?A They should be more concerned with their overall life style.B They should be more watchful for fatal diseases.C They should gain weight to look healthyD They should rid themselves of fantasies about designer clothes 參考答案 CABBA *結(jié)束Gaudi Nanda sees a wearable computer as a handbag - one that's built out of four-inch squares and triangles of fiber, with tiny computer chips embedded (嵌于) in it. It looks, feels and weighs like your typical leather purse. That's where the similarities end: this bag can wirelessly keep track of your belongings and remind you, just as you're about to leave the house, to take your wallet. It can review the weather report and suggest that you take an umbrella. This purse can even upload your favorite songs onto your scarf. Surely, a computing purse and scarf set may seem like the stuff of science fiction. But these devices, part of next generation of wearable computers, could become commonplace within a few years. Dupont created new super strong fibers that can conduct electricity and can be woven into ordinary-looking clothes. And the chipmaker developed chip packaging allowing wearable computers to be washed, even in the heavy-duty (耐磨損的) cycle. As a result, these new wearable devices are different from the heavy and downright silly versions of the recent past, which often required users to be wrapped in wires and type on their stomachs. Unlike their predecessors, these new wearable computers also make economic sense. When her bag becomes commercially available in two to three years, Nanda expects it will cost around $ 150, which is the price of an average leather purse. Here's how the bag works: You place a special radio-signal-transmitting chip onto your wallet. A similar radio in your purse picks up the signal and notifies you that you've forgotten to take your wallet. In turn, sensors on your purse's handles will notify the computer that you've picked up the purse and are ready to go. Already, these new kinds of wearable devices are being adopted for use in markets like auto repair, emergency services, medical monitoring - and even, increasingly, for consumers at large. Indeed, more people will want to cross that bridge in the coming years - making for a booming market for wearable computers that don't look like something out of science fiction.12. Which of the following describes a wearable computer?A. It can be washed in washing machines. B. It is much heavier than a leather purse. C. It can download songs from the Internet. D. It is made of clothes conducting electricity.13. According to the passage, the new wearable computers _. The purpose of the passage is to _A. introduce a new kind of computer B. explain the functions of computers C. compare different types of computers D. show how high technology affects our life1215、ACCA *結(jié)束 Cancer is among the top killer diseases in our society today and scientists have found out that stress(緊張) helps to bring it on. We need to consider, therefore, what are the causes of stress in our life, and whether we can do anything about them. Are we under-employed, or overburdened(負擔過重) with too many responsibilities? Do we have a right balance of work and leisure(閑散) in our lives? Are our relationships with family, friends or fellow workers all that they should be? All these things can be a cause of stress, and it is best to face them directly, and to bring our frustrations(失意) into the open. People who have a good row and then forget it are doing their health more good than those who bottle up their feelings. If our self-examination has brought any causes of stress to light, let us consider what we can do about them. It is possible to change jobs. We can make more leisure and fill it more happily, if we will accept a different living standard. We can improve our personal relationships by a different attitude. It is we who allow other people to make ourselves unhappy. Often the little things that disturb us are not worth an hours anger. The teaching in the Bible “Let not the sun go down upon your wrath(憤怒)” is good advice from the health point of view as well as religion.12. Which of the following statements is true?A. Freedom from responsibilities helps reduce stress.B. Stress is the direct cause of caner.C. The causes of stress are worth serious study.D.Cancer is the number one killer is our society today.13. Dont get angry easily about little things.D. Dont watch the sun set while you are angry.1215、CADA *結(jié)束     “Family” is of course an elastic word. But when British people say that their society is based on family life, they are thinking of “family” in its narrow, peculiarly European sense. Mother, father and children live together alone in their own house as an economic and social unit. Thus, at the beginning of a new and independent family, every British marriage indicates the extreme importance of marriage in British life. For both the man and the woman, marriage means leaving ones parents and starting ones own life. The mans first duty will then be to his wife, and the wifes to her husband. He will be entirely responsible for her financial support, and she for the running of the new home. Their children will be their common responsibility and theirs alone. Neither the wifes parents nor the husbands, nor their brothers or sisters, aunts or uncles, have any right to interfere(干涉)with themthey are their own masters.    Readers of novels like Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice will know that in former times marriage among wealthy families were arranged by the girls parents, that is, it was the parents duty to find a suitable husband for their daughter, preferably a rich one, and by skillful encouragement to lead him eventually to ask their permission to marry her. Until that time, the girl was protected and maintained in the parents home, and the financial relief of getting rid of her could be seen in their giving the newly married pair a sum of money called a dowry. It is very different today. Most girls of today get a job when they leave school and become financially independent before their marriage. This has had two results. A girl chooses her own husband, and she gets no dowry.17. What does the author mean by “Family is of course an elastic word”?A. Different families have different ways of life.B. Different definitions could be given to the word.C. Different nations have different families.D. Different times produce different families.18. For an English family, the husbands duty is _.A. supporting the family while the wife is financialB. defending the family while the wife is running the homeC. financial while the wife is running the homeD. independent while the wife is dependent19. What is true about the book Pride and Prejudice?A. It is the best book on marriage.B. It is a handbook of marriage.C. It gives quite some idea of English social life in the past.D. It provides a lot of information of former-time wealthy families.20. With regard to marriage in Britain, present-day girls differ from former-time girls in_.A. the marriage form B. more parental supportC. the way of choosing husbands D. social position17-20、 BCCC *結(jié)束Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there's a whole lot more to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your personality, it will hurt you long-term regardless of your skills or the job's pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas; 1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people? There are isolating(使孤立)jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation.2) How do you handle change? Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don't happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.3) Do you enjoy working with computers? I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you'll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.4) What type of work environment do you enjoy? This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won't know immediately to a smaller setting where you'll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.5) How do you like to get paid? Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this. Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I've seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.6. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad. B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily. C. Extreme people tend to work with others. D. Almost everyone has a tendency in jobs.7. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph one mean? A. Before you select your job, you should assess your skills and match them with your position B. There are more important things than assessing skills and match them with the position when you select job. C. Nothing is important than assessing skills and match them with the position when you select job. D You should ignore your skills when you select job.8. What is the missing word about a job search in the following chart?A. Design. B. Changes. C. Cooperation. D. Hobbies.skillsJobs Environment MotivationStability ?9.What is the best title for this passage?A. Lifestyles and Job Pay B. Jobs and Environment C. Job Skills and Abilities D. Personalities and Jobs678910DBCDC*結(jié)束
