2020學(xué)年人教版英語(yǔ)精品資料 Section ⅠWarming_Up_&_Reading_—_Prereading Jane Austen (1775~1817) She was born in a Steventon, Hampshire, where her father was a rector. She was the sixth child in a family of eight. She never received formal education but only had been sent to a boarding school with her sister at the age of 9. Her elder sister Cassandra was her best friend in her life, whereas her foundation education was more attributed to her father. Austen was fond of reading and writing, and had begun to take writing as joy since she was 11 or 12. Her heroines are determined to marry wisely and well. Virginia Wolf called her “the most perfect artist among women.” The Brontes The Brontes, Charlotte, Emily and Anne lived most of their life in an isolated parsonage in Yorkshire. From these quiet surroundings the three sisters spun passionate, romantic novels of powerful emotional energy that are still popular today. They began writing under the pen names of Cuter, Ellis, and Acton Bell, and after their work on publishing poems failed, they began working on novels. Charlotte was the only one of the three to become a successful novelist in her own lifetime. Her famous works: Jane Eyre. Emily Bronte, perhaps the greatest writer of the three sisters, published only one novel, Wuthering Heights (1847), a story of the doomed love and revenge. The novel didn’t gain immediate success as Charlotte’s Jane Eyre. But it has acclaimed later fame as one of the most intense novels written in the English language.
